Candace graduated from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell in 1981. She has been associated with Maine Equine for over twenty years. Her interests outside of practice mean that you may not see her on farm calls as often as the rest of us. She is a US Dressage Federation certified instructor/ trainer, and an FEI competitor. She owns 4 Lippizans, two Haflingers, two Lusitanos and a Welsh Cob. A United States Dressage Federation Silver Medalist, she is making her Grand Prix debut on her Lipizzan "Sunny," who she has owned and trained since he was three years old.
Candace is studying nondualistic healing with Jason Shulman and will soon be offering this practice to horses. In addition to her expertise in dressage, Candace is also trained in natural hoof care and has recently co-authored an article in "The Horse's Hoof" on frog disease.
With her husband Jim, Candace lives on a small horse farm in Poland. Jim "works" as a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, providing free medical transportation for those in need. They have 2 daughters, Shana, who is an attorney with the New York Legal Aid Group, and Becca, a 2010 graduate of the University of New Hampshire in Outdoor Education with a special interest in therapeutic applications. In addition to the horses, the Platz household is totally dominated by three overbearing Oriental Shorthair cats-- Pinkerton, Pocono and Zippety
